Bridge changes lives in the Mekong Delta region
On the morning of May 11, 2021, the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Thanh Nien - Handong Bridge, replacing the deteriorating September 2 canal bridge (Binh Thanh hamlet, Binh Thanh Trung commune, Lap Vo district, Dong Thap province) The event was held in the joy and excitement of the local government and especially local residents and students.
The new bridge was built solidly with a total cost of more than 528 million, sponsored by Handong Engineering & Construction JSC (Handong E&C) in association with Thanh Nien Newspaper Trade Union and Truong Thang Co., Ltd., with a length of 28 m, 4.4 m wide, construction time 2 months.
Mr. Le Van Hop, Chairman of Binh Thanh Trung Commune People's Committee, said: “Binh Thanh Trung Commune is one of the remote areas in Lap Vo District, with a cramped river system, difficult road traffic due to lack of solid bridges connecting. The whole commune has about 4,860 households with more than 21,000 people. People mainly make a living from agricultural production, so their lives are hard. The bridge connects the route to DT.825B, so the traffic of people, cars and goods is very crowded. The bridge built in 2005 up to now has deteriorated and there is always a potential for traffic accident. Thanks to donors, the newly built, spacious and solid bridge Thanh Nien - Handong will create favorable conditions for students, people and goods to be circulated more quickly and safely.”
